Detroit Tigers confident of winning ALCS Game 4 – MLB Update
Rick Porcello is positive of replicating Doug Fister’s performance on the mound when the Detroit Tigers take on Texas Rangers in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series on Wednesday, October 12 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan.
After having lost the first two games at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Detroit’s offence finally rose to the occasion and produced a postseason-high 11 hits in Game 3. Fister successfully kept the Rangers at bay while the offence, in the absence of star
sluggers and out-fielders Delmon Young and Magglio Ordonez, went on to score the aggregate score of Game 1 and 2 to topple the Rangers 5-2.
In Game 1 and 2 combined, the Tigers managed a total of 15 hits and five runs to present a sullied picture of the offence. However, with the series shifting back to Detroit, the Tigers did well to produce big hits, lashing three home-runs in the process.
Miguel Cabrera starred for the home-side in Game 3, connecting twice in his four at-bats and driving in two runs, including a home-run. However, Cabrera was quick to add that no results should be deduced because this is a long series and the team needs to
be patient. He further commented that the team aims at levelling the series first and then taking it on from there.
Victor Martinez’s fitness came into question after he appeared to suffer from an oblique injury during the game. His home-run drew the Tigers level with the Rangers, but he failed to continue thereafter. The Tigers have already lost Ordonez and Young to
ankle and oblique injuries respectively and another blow at this stage will surely dent their hopes for a pennant.
Manager Jim Leyland, however, remained confident of the depth of his roster. He said, "You know what? This is us. We are what we are. We've been doing this for the whole year, and we're going to either win this thing or go down with what we got."
Referring to the injuries, Leyland pointed out that the team will not use anything as an excuse for a loss and that the roster is capable of beating any side even without a few star players.
With the momentum tilting towards Detroit, the Tigers are favoured to prevail in Game 4.
