Detroit Tigers continue their miserable run – MLB Update
It is hard to say why Detroit Tigers have not been able to execute their game plan this season. With each passing game, it seems the Tigers are losing faith in their abilities.
When Manager Jim Leyland and General Manager Dave Dombrowski decided to sign on Prince Fielder during the offseason, there was a wave of excitement among Tigers’ fans. However, the guy who hit 38 home runs for Milwaukee Brewers last season, has not looked
to be the same with Detroit Tigers.
Tigers’ third baseman, Miguel Cabrera is also having a disappointing season. Cabrera played first base last season to help the Tigers win the American League Central Division title.
However, switch of positions has not done him any good and he continued his miserable run in a three game against New York Yankees. The pressure is building on the Tigers and even Ace Justin Verlander has started to make a large number of unforced errors.
"We knew what the pitcher was going to do and he did it all day, and we made absolutely no adjustment," Leyland said. "That was disappointing. He just kept pounding left-handed hitters with fastball after fastball inside, and we were hitting chicken-wing
pop-ups to the opposite field. That's not good, sorry."
"I'm trying to do more than I need to with what's going on as a team," Brennan Boesch said. "Once things start becoming little easier and we start winning more games, it'll help every player relax. But in order to do that, you have to relax first. It's a
chicken-and-the-egg type of thing."
The 2011 American League Most Valuable Player, Verlander took his fourth loss of the season in the finale of three match series with New York. Giving up five runs including four earned, he clearly looked short of answers.
The Disabled list contains the likes of Alex Avila, Austin Jackson and Andy Dirks but it seems Tigers’ problems run deeper than injuries. Leyland has now very limited options to work and it will be huge surprise if he can put the Tigers on the right path
before the All Star Break.
