Detroit Tigers could bring back Anibal Sanchez – MLB News
Detroit Tigers are still interested in free agent Anibal Sanchez, reports a leading sports website. Sanchez posted his career best season last year to make a name for himself. His post season in particular played a big part in Tigers American League Championships
winning campaign last season.
Right now, he is one of the most expensive pitchers in the open market. The Tigers made a qualifying offer to him at the end of the season but Sanchez wanted to a long term contract and decided gto become a free agent.
A number of Major League Baseball teams including Los Angeles Angels, Texas Rangers, Kansas City Royals and Boston Red Sox have shown interest in him since then. However, as of now, Sanchez has not received an offer that could meet his needs. According to
sources, Sanchez is hoping to sign on a six year $90 million contract. Reports have also surfaced that his agent has asked one team for a $100 million seven year contract.
“The Tigers have already made a substantial investment in Sanchez, trading their consensus top prospect in Jacob Turner to the Miami Marlins as part of a trade package last July. The Tigers also dealt catcher Rob Brantly, who is penciled in for a major league
job next season, in the trade. In return, Detroit received Omar Infante and half a season of Sanchez, who pitched brilliantly for them in September and in the post season,” said Patrick OKennedy.
“The Tigers remain interested in Sanchez, but they have been unwilling to go up to six years or $ 90 million to keep him,” he added.
Of course, the Tigers cannot do much about the offers that blow them away but they can still in the race as long as Sanchez is in the free agency. Considering the Tigers have already made a substantial investment on Sanchez when they traded their top prospect
Jacob Turner to the Miami Marlins, it is hard to see them making another significant financial commitment. According to a Major League sources, the Tigers have offered Sanchez $48 million contract which he has not accepted as yet.
