Detroit Tigers could still make a play for outfielder Justin Upton – MLB Update
Speculations are rising that the Detroit Tigers once again have been showing great interest to sign Justin Upton.
Earlier when outfielder Torii Hunter was signed by the Tigers, many experts expressed their views in the media and rejected altogether speculations of Upton’s chances in the Tigers’ roster.
It was a renowned sports’ journalist, whose report first came out in the media as later he also wrote in detail in a leading website that now there are very few chances of Upton being considered for the next Major League Baseball season by the Tigers.
"This is probably the best fit for (Diamondbacks GM Kevin Towers), Castellanos has the potential to be an impact bat who should develop into an average defender at third base, but he is blocked in the big leagues by the AL MVP, which is why the Tigers have tried him in the outfield, where he has less value. Garcia is a good athlete with bat control who should be an asset as a big-league regular down the line,” Jim Bowden wrote about Tigers’ potential efforts for Upton as well as on prospect Nick Castellanos.
He added viewing the Diamondbacks’ interest in Upton’s free agency as well, "The move would make the Diamondbacks younger, and a high-ceiling player like Castellanos would fit their long-term plans.”
Right fielder Justin Upton last played for the Diamondbacks with consistency. His hitting average remained consistent with .280 along with 17 homers, 67 RBIs and .355 OBP.
A five year Major League veteran, Upton’s career .278 hitting along with 108 homers, 363 RBIs and .357 OBP also makes him an attractive option for the Major League teams who are looking for a good free agent this offseason.
Since his arrival in the big league in 2007, he only played in the Diamondbacks’ roster. Winning two All-Star selections and a Silver slugger Award, Upton certainly has been playing well in the big league.
Experts believe that Upton still has a decent likelihood to sign with the Diamondbacks. However, if he does come in the Tigers' roster, they will be difficult to handle for sure.
