Detroit Tigers could trade Brennan Boesch – MLB News
Detroit Tigers’ are making some strange moves this offseason. In Nashville, during the four day annual Winter Meetings, Tigers’ General Manager Dave Dombrowski made an interesting revelation. Although several teams have shown interest in Tigers’ Major League
roster players, the Tigers are more interested in trading their prospects and minor league players.
According to detroitnews.com, the Tigers are looking to trade Brennan Boesch who had an ordinary time on the mound last season. Perhaps, his performances are the sole reason why the Tigers have taken him off their big league roster.
"We'll just see what ends up happening as far as when he goes to camp," said Dombrowski, who decided to tender Boesch a contract for 2013 — when that was far from a given. "We've seen a really good Brennan Boesch and we've seen a Brennan Boesch that hasn't
been quite as good."
"I don't really call them hot-and-cold streaks for really young hitters. I call it the education of hitting in the big leagues," Leyland said. "When Boesch came up, he was really impressive. We think that's still there, and maybe he hasn't made the necessary
adjustments."
Andy Dirks is the likely contender for the left field spot. Prospect Nick Castellanos and Avisail Garcia are also expected to compete for the open vacancy.
The 27 year old Boesch played his first game for the Tigers in 2012 and made an immediate impact with an excellent first half. However, his intensity dropped in the second half as he batted just .163 as compare to .342 in the first half.
The Tigers decided to keep Boesch on their 25 man roster after he delivered consistent results in 2011. Although his batting average fell after the All Star Break, he finished the season on decent note. His thumb injury was partly to blame as he played quite
a few games through injury.
He missed the entire 2011 post season but still managed to return for 2012 season. According to sources, Boesch could have been an impact player in the past season, he his thumb injury healed. It will be interesting to see if Boesch can become a consistent
player to shape a Hall of Famer career for himself.
