Detroit Tigers could trade Rick Porcello and Jhonny Peralta – MLB Update

As the Winter Meetings approach, the Detroit Tigers are becoming as hungry as real jungle tigers. Five years ago, Tigers acquired Miguel Cabrera in the Winter Meetings. Four years ago, it was Edwin Jackson and Gerald Laird and then in a mega trade three
years ago, Daniel Schlereth, Max Scherzer, Austin Jackson and Phil Coke moved to Detroit.
The Tigers did not make any big moves in the last two December conventions. However, none of us will be surprised if they create a brawl when baseball’s Winter Meeting start in Nashville on Monday evening.
Although the Tigers may not acquire new players, they can trade the likes of shortstop Jhonny Peralta and right hander Rick Porcello. In a telephonic interview with a leading sports website, General Manager Dave Dombrowski acknowledged that teams are phoning
him regularly about Porcello and Peralta.
If the Tigers re-sign free agent starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez, surely they will not mind trading a couple of players. For Dombrowski, the fact several teams are interested in Tigers’ front line players is a good thing.
Porcello: "We are not looking to trade Rick Porcello," said Dombrowski, responding to a specific report by ESPN's Buster Olney. "People ask about him, because they see Sanchez coming back, which is by no means a given. Right now, Rick Porcello is a very
valuable member of our rotation."
Peralta: "We have a solid big league shortstop in Jhonny Peralta," Dombrowski commented about Tigers situation on Peralta. "I can tell that all the more by the number of clubs calling me about him. But we're comfortable with him."
Perhaps, Dombrowski’s decision to trade Peralta and Porcello will largely depend on the return of Sanchez. The 28-year-old starter produced some magical performances for the Tigers in 2012 post-season, helping his side reach the World Series finals. It will
be interesting to see if the Tigers can fill one of their starting spots with Sanchez.
The Tigers could also be looking to cut a deal with free agent shortstop Stephen Drew. Manager Jim Leyland has been looking at him as a potential replacement for Peralta.
