Detroit Tigers could wait till Spring Training to make their next move – MLB News
For those bored with the Detroit Tigers’ lack of activity this season, they need to get used to it. In Nashville, during the four day winter meetings, all the Tigers did was trade a Double A catcher and a couple of Rule 5 guys.
The biggest move made by the Tigers this offseason was signing former Los Angeles Angels’ outfielder Torii Hunter. The veteran posted some impressive numbers last season as he hit .313 with 16 home runs and 92 RBI’s.
Considering Tigers’ outfield problems over the last few years, Hunter was a perfect choice for them. The Tigers agreed to pay him $26 million over the next two years and it will be interesting to see if Hunter can live up to the expectations to help the
Tigers win the prestigious World Series title.
However, apart from the Hunter’s signing, Tigers’ General Manager Dave Dombrowski and the rest of the Tigers’ front office staff are not keen to make any big moves because they believe their current 25 man big league roster is good enough to beat any Major
League Baseball team.
The Tigers produced some magical performances the past season, including 4-0 American League Championship win against the mighty New York Yankees. They are now considered as one of the elite clubs in the American League and it is easy to see why.
"No I don't," Dombrowski said this week in a news press conference in Nashville. "And I'll tell you why.
"If we could find the right guy (to add), we would do it. But we're not adverse to bringing those guys into camp, and seeing how they do in camp — and also knowing you could look for that type of player at the end of the spring if you don't find the right
guy (internally)," he further added.
With Prince Fielder, Miguel Cabrera, Hunter and Austin Jackson, the Tigers have some of the finest hitting talent in their lineup. The starting rotation also looks good with Justin Verlander, Doug Fister and Max Scherzer. So we can expect the Tigers to have
a relatively quiet offseason this year.
