Detroit Tigers crush Houston Astros 7-2 – MLB News
Detroit Tigers continued their marvellous winning streak as they crushed the Houston Astros 7-2 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Tuesday, May 14 in Game 2 of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
It was an important win for the Tigers, who struggled to live up to the expectation in their previous few games. With their win the Tigers improved their record to 21-15 as they made their way to the top of American League Central Division standings table.
It will not be wrong to say that the Tigers used their home conditions to great effect to create all sorts of problems for the Astros.
"Altuve came out for precautionary reasons, and he's already told me that he's playing tomorrow," Houston manager Bo Porter said. "Norris wanted to stay out there, but we'll see how he feels in the next day or two. That's always the question when it comes
to back injuries."
"I've hit leadoff in college and I've hit leadoff in the big leagues and in the minor leagues," Dirks said. "It's really nothing different. The way I approach it, I just try to get on base for the big guys."
Starting pitcher, Anibal Sanchez, who produced some magical performance last year, showed the stuff he is capable of as he allowed just six hits and two runs in seven solid innings, laying the foundations an impressive Tigers’ victory. Striking out batter
at regular intervals, the right hander did not let the Astros’ batting lineup settle down.
Relief pitcher Jose Ortgea also made his presence felt as he pitched two outstanding scoreless innings of relief to help the Tigers hold on to their lead. Tigers’ outfielder Torii Hunter provided his team with the perfect start as he doubled to deep centre
in the first inning to put his side on the board. Victor Martinez, who missed the entire past season due to a knee injury, finally had something to cheer about he homered to right in the fourth inning. Andy Dirks hit a grand slam to give Tigers a stunning
win.
