Detroit Tigers defeat Kansas City Royals 6-4 – MLB Update
The American League’s Detroit Tigers overpowered the Kansas City Royals 6-4 for the second straight night in the four-game series at Kauffman Stadium on Friday, July 8.
After clinching the first game 3-1 with some exceptional performance by their starter Max Scherzer, the Tigers as gained their winning momentum. They utilised it and began the game with an early lead. The Tigers’ batting line-up blistered two runs in the
top of the first inning, one in the second and two more in the third inning to get considerable lead. They then scored their sixth run in the top of the ninth inning to win the game.
Magglio Ordonez led the game off with his blistering two-run homer off the Royals’ ace Kyle Davies. Then Andy Dirks scored an RBI single in the second inning while Victor Martinez and Jhonny Peralta each added an RBI single in the third inning.
The Royals also started in a positive manner, as their left-fielder Alex Gordon and Jeff Francoeur each drove in an RBI single in the bottom of the first inning. Billy Butler clinched an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning to reduce the lead to
5-3. However, after this run, they struggled against the Tigers’ starter Rick Porcello.
Porcello, after allowing three runs, made a perfect come-back and struck-out five batters in just over five innings to snatch his eighth win of the season. He now has 8-6 record with 4.78 ERA in 17 starts.
His rival Davies, in contrast lost his eighth consecutive game of the season. He allowed five runs on nine hits including a homer over six innings. He also allowed three walks and struck-out four batters over 106 pitches of his 11 starts.
The Tigers’ reliever, David Purcey, allowed one run on one hit, walked one in his single inning. Lester Oliveros, Phil Coke and closer Jose Valverde each remained scoreless.
Royals’ Blake Wood did not allow any run but closer Tim Collins gave away one-run three hits in his two innings.
The Tigers now will be looking to grab another triumph to move towards a series sweep. Detroit will use their reliable starter Charlie Furbush and his pitching talent will surely create some advantage for them.
