Detroit Tigers defeat Los Angeles Angels 8-6 at Comerica Park – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers defeated Los Angeles Angels 8-6 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Monday, July 16 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular seasons.
The Tigers are sending a clear message to the American League teams these days. The win against the Angels on Monday was their eighth in the last 10 games and credit must be given to the offence that has produced consistent performances to keep Detroit in
the playoff race.
Starting pitcher Rick Porcello looked a bit out of sorts as he gave up five runs and eight hits in five plus innings, allowing the Angels to get off to a strong start.
Octavio Dotel brought the Tigers back into the contest as he pitched 1.1 effective innings, giving up just a single hit for his third win of the season.
Third baseman Miguel Cabrera put the Tigers on the board with an RBI groundout to short-stop in the first inning.
Brennan Boesch also made his presence felt as he grounded into fielder’s choice to pitcher and Prince Fielder scored to add spice to the proceedings. Delmon Young singled to right and hit a sacrifice fly to centre in the seventh as the Tigers came back from
behind to level score 5-5.
"Different people can contribute, one through nine," Boesch said. "I think that's what you need to have success, especially in the American League, with a lot of potent lineups. I think we're definitely one of the teams that runs out a lineup that has a
lot of depth, and recently it's showed."
"No, man. That dude's ridiculous," Rookie Quintin Berry said. "If you all are expecting that, you all can relax. That dude's fun to watch."
Boesch homered to right in the seventh and the Tigers established complete control over the contest. It will be interesting to see if Jim Leyland and company can give similar results in the next three games of this series to replace the AL Central leaders,
Chicago White Sox.
Angels’ starter Ervin Santana had a poor time on the mound as he conceded four runs and eight hits in six innings.
