Detroit Tigers defeat Minnesota Twins 3-2 for second straight win – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers romped to a 3-2 win in the second outing against the Minnesota Twins at Comerica Park in Detroit on Saturday, September 10.
Brandon Inge launched a devastating home-run off the Twins’ closer Glen Perkins in the bottom of the ninth inning to take his club into another win. Third baseman Inge hammered his third home-run of the season.
The game was tied from the top of the sixth inning when the Twins’ Danny Valencia tied it at 2-all with his sacrifice fly RBI single generating hit off the Tigers’ starter Max Scherzer. As the spectators were hoping the game into extra innings, Inge launched
a beautiful hit to left-field for a home-run and a huge applause came from the stands.
"I love situations like that, where you know that if you get the right result, it is going to be spectacular, especially with these fans in Detroit," Inge said. "But trust me, if I could do that on command, I wouldn't be hitting .194."
Al Alburquerque worked a perfect ninth for his sixth victory but had an injury to his upper right leg.
"He said it was nothing, but I told him that this isn't the time of year to be a hero," said Tigers manager Jim Leyland. "He looked okay, so we left him in, but I'm not sure what the injury is -- he's being looked at right now."
Phil Coke was also scoreless in the eighth.
Twins’ designated hitter Joe Mauer hammered is third home-run of the season in the top of the fourth inning to tie it at 1-all. Besides him, no other batter could contribute a run until Valencia scored game-tier RBI single in the sixth.
Twins’ starter Anthony Swarzak permitted a home-run in the third inning to Wilson Betemit. He then allowed a run to Victor Martinez in the bottom of the fourth. Right-hander worked six innings to strike-out six batters and allowed four hits along with two
walks. Matt Capps and Alex Burnett restricted the opposition to no-score in the seventh and the eighth inning respectively.
It was the 83rd win for the Tigers and the 86th loss of the Twins. Tigers are moving positively to make their name in the post season.
