Detroit Tigers defeated Baltimore Orioles 6-4 – MLB Spring Training
Detroit Tigers defeated Baltimore Orioles 6-4 at the Ed Smith Stadium in Sarasota, Florida on Friday, March 30 in their Grapefruit League encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session.
Cabrera made a strong come back after being hit on his face by a grounder. The hard hitting striker collected two 2 RBI’s to play a crucial role in deciding the outcome of the game. Baltimore Orioles left handed starter Brian Matusz hit 92 mph on regular
basis but the Tigers kept hitting him to load the bases. Although Matusz retried his last nine batters, he could not stop the Tigers from earning a well deserved victory.
A week and a half ago, Cabrera was hit on his face by a ball that bounced awkwardly. Cabrera received stitches on his face following the incident.
"Just came out of the gates amped up with a lot of energy," Matusz said. "The first inning, it killed me not getting ahead in the count. Gave up some two-strike hits. After that first inning, I was able to shake it off and just get back to work with (catcher
Matt) Wieters. I really found a nice rhythm."
"I felt just as strong in the fifth inning as I did in the first," he added. "I was able to get my pitch count up and I was able to iron out the mechanical adjustments I've needed to."
The Tigers had lost their previous spring training game against Washington Nationals, so they will be very pleased to get things back on track. Showing great composure, mental toughness and fighting spirits, the Tigers put their rivals under immense pressure
and then executed their game plan to perfection to establish strong grip over the contest.
The Tigers, who won the American League Central title last season, are hoping to win their first World Series title for the first time since 1984. Manager Jim Leyland and General Manager Dave Dombrowski will have high expectations from the likes of Miguel
Cabrera, Prince Fielder, Brennan Boesch and Justin Verlander. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can live up to their fans’ expectations.
