Detroit Tigers dump Miami Marlins 3-1 – MLB Spring Training Recap
Detroit Tigers secured a comfortable win over Miami Marlins at the Roger Dean Stadium, Jupiter Florida on Tuesday, March 6 in their Grapefruit League clash of the 2012 Major League Baseball Spring Training Session. The Tigers looked in commanding form in their opening two games and they continued their excellent run against the Marlins to earn their third straight win of Spring Training.
Making the most of available opportunities, the Tigers established complete control over the contest right from the start. The Marlins, on the other hand, will be disappointed to end up on the losing side. Despite putting up a valiant fight against one of the strongest American League teams, they fell short of their targets by a considerable distance.
Rick Porcello, who produced some great performances last season (14-9), made a decent start to his Spring Training campaign. Allowing an unearned run and a hit over two innings, he helped the Tigers ease past the Marlins 3-2. Tigers’ third baseman Danny Worth made a throwing error, which allowed the only run off Porcello in the first inning.
"It's definitely good to see my sinker had good life on it, my four-seamer wasn't as consistent as I'd like it to be at this time of year, but my changeup and slider, I had a pretty good feel for those," Porcello said.
For Marlins, Jose Reyes made an impressive Spring Training debut as he went 0 for 3 in his first game. In a post game interview, the National League batting champions stated that he is not too concerned about the results in Spring Training.
"Spring training is all about feeling good at the plate and putting a good swing on the ball," said Reyes.
"It's nothing different," he added. "It's baseball. It's still the same game, but with a different uniform. It was kind of exciting to get on the field in a real with my new team. It was good."
The Tigers made some key changes to their squad in the offseason to build a team capable enough to win the World Series title. It will be interesting to see if they can live up to the expectations.
