Detroit Tigers ease past Chicago White Sox 3-1 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers eased past Chicago White Sox 3-1 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Sunday, May 6 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. The Tigers will be delighted to get over the .500 win percentage mark after playing some poor baseball over the last two weeks.
Tigers started the series with a thrilling 5-4 win and although they lost their way a bit in the second game, the Tigers finished the series on a high note to send a strong message to Seattle Mariners. Adam Dunn helped the White Sox take 1-0 lead in the first inning but the Tigers stuck to their game plan and Austin Jackson hit a towering 411 feet home run to left to level the score.
Prince Fielder and Andy Dirks also joined the party with home runs in third and eight innings respectively and they Tigers earned a much needed victory. Starting pitcher Rick Porcello had an impressive time on the mound as he gave up only one run and four hits in just over six innings.
"I felt like the ball's been coming out of my hand good as far as my fastball having life and that sort of thing," Porcello said. "I think just trying to slow everything down has been the main thing that I continue to keep working on."
"It's good to get a lot of runners on base," Dirks said. "We didn't quite get the hit when we needed it today, but we're coming around."
Manager Jim Leyland and company had made a terrific start to their 2012 regular season campaign but they were unable to give results on regular basis, which eventually led to their downfall. The Tigers were hammered by Texas Rangers 1-3 and then Seattle Mariners brushed them aside 3-0 in a three game series.
Showing great fighting spirits and mental strength, the Tigers secured an important series win against the White Sox on Sunday evening and it will be interesting to see if they can give similar performances in their next series against the Mariners.
