Detroit Tigers edge Cincinnati Reds 3-2 – MLB Recap
The Detroit Tigers edge past the Cincinnati Reds 3-2 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, June 9 at Great American Ball Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Tigers’ entire roster played well and bounced back in the three-game series. Levelling the series 1-1, the Tigers are now in great position to take the away the series. They all looked in shape and entered in the field with much confidence and eventually
their confident paid off well in a thrilling win.
After winning the game, the Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland stated in the media of his major players with great jubilation. He also added and explained why all these players performed with big energy and fought well despite losing the first game. He said, "Anytime
you have Cabrera and Fielder back to back, you feel pretty good. Right-hander or left-hander, it doesn't make any difference, Prince had a huge hit. He probably could have gone out there, but it's one of those deals that you hear, he can hit but he turned
his ankle. I decided to get him out of the game."
Starter Justin Verlander won another game for the Tigers. He pitched six innings and gave only two runs and along with six hits and two earned runs. Striking-out nine, Verlander totally dominated the game and never gave any chance to the Reds to take control
of the game at any stage of the play.
"If you're going to be a good team, you have to win games like this. They definitely didn't make it easy on me but we came through.” Verlander said after the game.
First baseman Prince Fielder also played well and made one crucial run along with two RBIs.
On the other hand, the Reds did look confident from start of the game. Their offence was also poor which could not fight at crucial moments of the game.
In the meanwhile, the next and decisive game will be played on Sunday as Tigers hold a clear advantage over the Reds with their pitching prowess. The Tigers will be looking to put in a good performance in their next match-up to build up some much needed
confidence.
