Detroit Tigers edge Seattle Mariners 6-4 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers finally managed to overcome Seattle Mariners as they earned a hard fought victory 6-4 at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington on Tuesday, May 8 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
General Manager Dave Dombrowski and Manager Jim Leyland will be very pleased with what they saw from their team on Wednesday evening and it will be interesting to see if the Tigers can give similar performances in the decisive finale to devastate their arch rivals.
So far, the Tigers have struggled to find way to win in their game against Seattle Mariners this season. Prior to their game on Wednesday, the Tigers had lost to the Mariners in all four games, which also included a three game series sweep at the Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan. With their win the Tigers improved their season record to 15-14 and they will also have the opportunity beat the Marines in front of their home crowd and gain valuable winning momentum.
"I watched very close tonight because in the dugout you can't always tell and ... we swung at a lot of balls," Leyland said. "We're not going to hit if we swing at the kind of pitches we swung at tonight after the third or fourth inning."
"It all just comes down to that 'one inning' again," Millwood said. "I was able to battle and get out of the first, and then the second was that inning again."
"I wasn't happy with the strike zone," Leyland said. "I let them know it, and they let me know where to go."
Leyland and company will be looking to continue their excellent form in the finale as well to crush their rivals’ confidence levels. It will be exciting to see if Detroit can live up to it’s fans expectations in the final game. Andy Dirks had a great time on the plate and he played a key role in the opening run for the Tigers. Prince Fielder, Brennan Boesch and Austin Jackson also made the most of available opportunities to help the Tigers take an impassable 5-0 lead.
