Detroit Tigers’ expecting more from their batting lineup – MLB News
The Tigers have given some impressive performances since the start of 2012 regular season. The way they conducted themselves during the Spring Training session determined the fact they will be very hard to beat this season.
The winners of 2011 American League Central division title, Tigers were unable to live up to the expectation in the playoffs past season, forcing General Manager Dave Dombrowski and Manager Jim Leyland to make plenty of changes in teams’ batting and pitching
lineups.
The Tigers started their three match series with Tampa Bay Rays in an impressive manner, securing a comfortable 5-2 win in the opener but can they continue their impressive run throughout the season to win their second straight American League Central title?
Only the time will tell if the Tigers manage to live up to the expectation surrounding them since the offseason.
Jim Leyland and his men faced the very same team in late august 2011 when they had a very minor lead in the Central. The Tigers played very aggressively in that series and in some ways it changed the course of their destiny.
"I thought it defined our whole year," Leyland said. "I thought that was the thing that won the Central Division for us. We went down there, we didn't score many runs the four days, but we won three out of the four, I believe."
"I think that was the series that turned our season around," Leyland said. "It was a good series, well-played, good pitching."
Detroit’s pitching lineup has been performing on regular basis since the start this season. Their 4-0 win-loss record is largely down to the fact their pitching attach has delivered the goods consistently.
A leading sports based website, ESPN has ranked the Tigers as the number one team in Major League Baseball right now. What was interesting about the rankings was Tampa Bay Rays are the number two team.
Tigers’ batting line up has many stars in it. Prince Fielder, who is on the fourth largest contract in history of the game, will have to come out and show the world what he is capable of if the Tigers are to win the World Series finals.
