Detroit Tigers face San Francisco Giants in Game 1 of World Series – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers will be facing the San Francisco Giants at AT&T Park in San Francisco California on Wednesday, October 24 in Game 1 of the World Series finals.
Tigers secured their World Series birth almost a week ago after beating the New York Yankees 4-0 in the best of seven games American League Championship Series. Earlier in the American League Division Series, they held their nerves to clinch a thrilling
3-2 series victory against the Oakland Athletics.
With seven wins in their nine post-season games, the Tigers will be certainly feeling very confident about themselves. However, they will be looking to find scoring ways against the Giants to bring home their first World Series title since 1984.
Tigers made it to the World Series finals in 2006 as well, only to be embarrassed by the inspired St. Louis Cardinals. However, with improved pitching and batting resources, they have their best chance of claiming the biggest prize this season.
''I loved it because it means we're in the World Series,'' Tigers’ catcher Alex Avila said. ''Someone asked me that question after we won and I was like, 'Would you rather if we had lost some of those games?' It doesn't really matter to me. We did everything
we could to stay mentally sharp.''
''What is it, eight months of baseball? What's five days?'' Tigers’ star Prince Fielder asked.
Giants, on the other hand, reached the World Series after edging past the Cardinals 4-3 in the best of seven games National League Championship Series. After losing three out of first four games, it seemed the Giants were on their way out of the NL pennant
race but that did not turn out to be the case.
Showing great determination, mental toughness and pressure handling abilities, the Giants humiliated their opponents in last three games of the series to secure a World Series spot. Both Tigers and the Giants are equally matched in hitting department of
the game.
Tigers, however, do have an edge over their opponents in other areas like pitching and defence. It will be interesting to see if they can live up to their immense potential to cheer up their fans in Detroit.
