Detroit Tigers’ fans waiting desperately for Victor Martinez’s return – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers’ fans will be very excited about Victor Martinez’s return in the next season. Tigers’ Designated Hitter had a wonderful time on the plate in 2011 as he hit .330 with 103 RBI’s and .850 OPS. However, just before the start of 2012 regular season,
Martinez suffered an ACL tear in his left knee.
After the Doctor examined him, it was revealed that the injury was of a serious nature and Martinez missed the entire season to recover. According to a leading sports website, Martinez is desperate to make a comeback in Major League Baseball.
In some ways, it has been frustrating 13 months for Martinez, who posted one of the finest seasons of his career in 2011. For a baseball player, it is vital to take part in training sessions to maintain his form but that has not been the case for Martinez
who has not swung his bat for a long while.
Of course, Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland will be a bit worried about him. There is no denying the fact Martinez is an extremely talented hitter but he will be looking to regain the skills that enabled him to hit .330 in 2011.
"On a scale of 1 to 10, I feel he's an 8 or 9, that he's going to come back and be the kind of hitter he was last year," McClendon said during a Saturday phone conversation.
"It's tough to take a year off, but I also know he's a very good hitter," Dombrowski said last week. "He's not one of those swing-and-miss power hitters, so I would anticipate that he would be fine. Is he going to hit .330 and drive in 100-plus runs? I don't
know. But I think he'll be a good hitter."
According to sources, Leyland is planning to arrange training sessions for Martinez to help him regain confidence ahead of 2013 Spring Training camp. Tigers’ hitting coach is also expected to help fine tune Martinez’s swing once he is cleared for full baseball
activities. It will be interesting to see if Martinez can start from where he left off in 2012 to help the Tigers win next year’s World Series championship.
