Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera misses Taiwan trip due to sore shoulder – MLB News
The Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera has decided not to go to Taiwan due to his sore shoulder that is said to be in a very critical situation. Cabrera was scheduled to attend an exhibition tour of Major League Baseball next month in Taiwan from
November 1 to 6 but has not recovered fully from his shoulder injury which is the main reason why he has skipped this tour.
Recently, Cabrera spoke to a renowned sports journalist in Venezuela and told him his recent shoulder condition and confirmed his non-availability for this particular offseason foreign tour where 19 other MLB players are participating. Later, that journalist
told an MLB source regarding Cabrera’s skipped tour details.
Cabrera’s shoulder was injured due to a collision with Texas Rangers’ catcher Mike Napoli in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series (ALCS). Earlier, Cabrera himself stated that his injury is believed to be “all muscle” and not structural type
but now he will undergo an MRI scan to determine where the actual damage has happened.
Despite his injury, Miguel went to play Game 5 and 6 as he remained determined to play for his team that needed his support in the AL Championship Series. Though, in the end, that best of seven series favoured the Texas Rangers who defeated the Tigers in
style but Cabrera’s performance was commendable. Not only in the post-season but he also played with total commitment in the regular season and helped his team reach that far in the competition.
Cabrera’s level of commitment with the Tigers was acknowledged by many as he always looked ready to take any challenge during the whole season. His steady performance in the 2011 earned him the name of top Venezuelan MLB baseball player playing in the MLB
at the moment.
Winning the top Venezuelan player in MLB also shows his true and exceptional talent and now he is eyeing the 2011 Major League Baseball awards where his chances are very good to win the Gold Glove award. Winning this year’s batting title with a .344 average
including an OPS of 1.033, .448 OBG and a .586 SLG is also a very big achievement.
