Detroit Tigers’ first baseman Prince Fielder is a multi dimensional hitter – MLB Update

Detroit Tigers’ slugger Prince Fielder is showing that he is much more than just being a power hitter. Fielder displayed some top quality hitting skills in Tigers’ recent series against the American League West Division leaders, Texas Rangers.
The hard hitting first baseman was acquired by the Tigers for the fourth largest contract in history of the game after he posted some incredible numbers (38 home-runs, 100 plus RBI’s and a .299 average). However, Fielder is putting together even a better
season this year.
The Tigers would not have expected him to be hitting .310 after 115 games. Fielder has also reduced his strike-outs by nearly 50 percent, which shows that he is working hard on some of the weak links of his game-play.
"He's just a good hitter," coach Lloyd McClendon said. "He's showing that now, but really he's shown it all year. Against tough lefties, for instance, he's taken hits the other way and has gotten walks — not stretching the zone as much as in the past."
"When I see Prince at the plate," McClendon added, "what I see is a real good hitter who has power — not just a power hitter."
In his first two years with the Milwaukee Brewers, the left hander struck-out 138 times. However, in his 115 games with Detroit, he has reduced his strike-out ratio considerably with just 55. However, what makes Fielder an asset for the Tigers is his ability
to find ways of scoring against left hand pitchers.
Along with third baseman Miguel Cabrera, he forms one of the most dangerous hitting partnerships in the League. Leyland will be definitely looking to give his star hitter some rest so he could live up to the expectations in the playoffs.
"I'm probably just going to have to make up my mind one of these days to possibly giving him and Prince a full day off," said Leyland. "But not on the same day."
Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland and General Manager Dave Dombrowski will be very pleased with their off-season decision to sign Fielder, who has fuelled the Tigers’ run to the top of American League Central Division standings table.
