Detroit Tigers floor Kansas City Royals 3-1 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers defeated Kansas City Royals 3-1 at the Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri on Tuesday, April 17 in their regular season encounter of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
Skipper Jim Leyland is a very patient skipper and he knows how to get the best out of his players. He supported Cabrera even when he was having a tough time on the plate and his efforts paid off big time on Tuesday as the hard hitting right hander went on
to post a match winning performances.
"I'm not going to talk to him about hitting," Leyland said. "He knows twice as much about hitting as I do. He'll be just fine."
"Cabrera's going to hit," Leyland said. "The guy is a .330 major league hitter."
Cabrera’s RBI single off reliever Greg Holland in the eighth inning played a key role in deciding the outcome of the game. Andy Dirks and Brennan Boesch also played a useful hand to help the Tigers tie the score in the eighth.
Tigers’ skipper will be very pleased with the way the third baseman responded to some of the difficult situations during the contest and he will be hoping that Cabrera continues his excellent form in the upcoming games as well.
Prince Fielder added an RBI single later on to help the Tigers take the score lead and Jose Valverde had his second successful save in three attempts.
"Bruce pitched great, did a great job of keeping them off balance," Royals manager Ned Yost said of Tigers’ pitcher Bruce Chen. "He pitched us into the eighth inning, which I think is the first time all year that's been done for us. He did a fantastic job."
The Tigers, once again, showed just why they are the favourites to win the World Series finals this season. Showing great composure, temperament and physical abilities, the Tigers dominated their rivals in almost all aspects of the game.
With their win on Tuesday night, Leyland and his men have now improved their regular season win-loss record to 3-1. Miguel Cabrera, who has been struggling at the third base this season, finally showed some signs of improvement.
