Detroit Tigers grieve scoring chances as club heads home to face Texas Rangers for Game 3 and 4
The Detroit Tigers had a chance to bring the American League Championship Series title closer to their home on Monday, October 10 when they faced the Texas Rangers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington for Game 2 of the tournament.
The club had chances in the first, second and ninth inning but they went to waste as the home team picked up the winner in the 11th inning with a walk-off grand slam.
Tigers had two hitters on first and second base in the first inning against Texas pitcher Derek Holland but the opportunity went to waste when Victor Martinez grounded out to the pitcher. In the second inning, the bases were loaded. Ramon Santiago however
grounded out and Austin Jackson was called out on second to end the inning.
Fast forward down to the ninth inning and Neftali Feliz walked Miguel Cabrera to load the bases on two-outs. The same result came forth as Victor Martinez popped out to Elvis Andrus. Finishing was one of Detroit’s biggest problems in Texas. Cabrera, who
went 1-for-5 in the game, with one walk and two strike-outs, had a few words to share.
"We're not hitting," Cabrera said. "I think we have to do a better job with men in scoring position. I think we have to go out there and find a way to do our jobs. Hopefully, we can start tomorrow."
Manager Jim Leyland will get the opportunity to work on his hitters over the day before Game 3 and Game 4 are played in Detroit. For some players, staying patient and calm is the key.
"We just have to relax," Santiago said. "We're at home now. I know everybody's trying to do the best they can. We just have to relax and execute."
The Tigers will be looking to put in a good performance and dominate the games at home against the Rangers. Detroit is currently two games down in the Series and the importance of putting in a decent effort in Game 3 and 4 is imperative for the team.
The one thing the Tigers need to work at is finishing the game.
