Detroit Tigers hammered by Boston Red Sox 6-10 – MLB news
Boston Red Sox showed the stuff they are capable as they secured a comfortable 10-6 win against the Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Friday, June 21 in Game 2 of their four match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
Tigers got the better of their American League rivals in the opener but the Tigers failed to capitalise on their advantage on Friday and the Red Sox fought back superbly to stay alive in the series. Tigers’ Manager Jim Leyland will be very disappointed with
the outcome of the clash but the Tigers till have an opportunity to prevail an important series win against the inform Red Sox.
Despite their loss, the Tigers are placed on the American League Central Division standings table. It will be exciting to see if Leyland and his men can learn from their mistakes to turn things around in Game 3.
Tigers’ starting pitcher Doug Fister had a horrible time on the mound as he allowed 11 hits and six runs in just over three innings to take his fifth loss of the year. The running season has turned out to be a very inconsistent one for the right hander.
“I didn't even know what my career high was,” Victorino said. “It's great. Any time you get four hits and five RBIs -- for a guy like me -- you always get excited for it.”
“Doug wasn't at his sharpest, but he didn't get any luck, either,” Detroit manager Jim Leyland said. “I'm not making any excuses for him, but when they hit the ball hard, and they did hit some hard, they got a hit, and when they didn't hit the ball hard,
they still got a hit.”
Some good and some bad performances, Fister really needs to work on the weaker areas of his game play. Relief pitchers Darwin Downs and Phil Coke also struggled to control the flow of runs as they combined to concede four hits and three runs in just over
three innings. For the Red Sox, starter Jon Lester gave up five runs in five plus innings to grab his seventh win in a high scoring contest.
