Detroit Tigers hammered by Texas Rangers 3-10 – MLB Update
Texas Rangers gave Detroit Tigers the taste of their own medicine as they hammered them 10-3 at the Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Thursday, April 19 in the opening game of their four match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball.
For Texas, Yu Darvish showed exactly what is capable of as he pitched two hit ball into the seventh inning. Mike Napoli hit his fourth straight home run to shine in Rangers’ comfortable win over their competitors.
"I think the biggest improvement is just the consistency of my command," Darvish said. "I think it's getting close to where I want to be. It's hard to be perfect right away, in a short amount of time. But I think I am slowly going in the right direction."
"It's all about getting comfortable," Texas catcher Yorvit Torrealba said. "I think he's only going to get better. I'm sure he's learning something from every outing."
"He pitched well," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "It looks like he has some late life on his fastball, and he's got a nice repertoire of pitches."
Both Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers have looked in commanding form since the start of the regular season. Rangers in particular have surprised a number of tennis analysts and viewers. With 11-2 win-loss record this season, nobody had expected them to be
so dominant in the early stages of the season.
The Tigers, on the other hand are one of strongest teams in the American League Central Division. They have the likes of Prince Fielder and Miguel Cabrera in the batting lineup. Furthermore, their pitching attack features Justin Verlander who was the 2012
Most Valuable Player of the year.
Detroit also had a respectable 9-3 win-loss record going into the game against Texas. However, Tigers’ slaughtering at the hands of Rangers is a clear sign of the damage that could be done to their winning percentage.
Manager Jim Leyland and company will now have to play out of their skins to win this series. The Rangers, who have looked invincible at times, will be hoping to continue their impressive form throughout the season to dent Tigers’ confidence levels even deeper.
