Detroit Tigers have little time to regroup themselves – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers have little time to regroup themselves before they take Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park in Boston in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Boston had the better of the Tigers in the opening game as they secured a comfortable 7-4 win to take 1-0 lead in the series. Of course, the pressure will be on Tigers’ big hitters who have not been able to live up to their immense potential since the start
of the season.
With the likes of Prince Fielder, Brennan Boesch, Miguel Cabrera and Delmon Young in their hitting lineup, the Tigers were expected to run away with the American League Central division title.
"Sometimes, because you wait a long time to face them, and they throw at a different angle," said Tigers shortstop Jhonny Peralta, a right-handed hitter. "And most of these guys are pretty good. He was throwing his fastball 92-94 (m.p.h.) with a good breaking
ball."
"When I have an incident in a short period of time where four umpires don't see anything that was flagrant, and now one sees one from 120 feet away that's not even close to being accurate, that has a tendency to (tick) you off after a while," Leyland said.
"That's the way it is."
Bobby Valentine and company have not been able to score runs on consistent basis, which has led to their downfall on numerous occasions this season. There is no denying the fact the Tigers have the ability and capacity to turn the tables but it is now or
never for them.
With the All Star Break coming up, the Tigers will be looking to move past the .500 win percentage mark to restore some of the lost pride.
The bullpen has produced some masterful performances in the last couple of months but the Tigers will need more runs from the offence to put things on the right track.
Only the time will tell if they can change the course of their campaign to win their second straight American League Central division title.
