Detroit Tigers having talks with teams to discuss potential trades – MLB News
Two days into the winter meetings and the Tigers are yet to make a considerable move. Right now, things are looking very quiet for them. However, it will not be a surprise to anyone if the Tiger end up making at least one big move. According to mlive.com,
Tigers’ General Manager Dave Dombrowski is spending plenty of time talking with other teams about potential deals.
The Tigers also announced changes to their coaching staff for the next season. Gene Lamont, who was Tigers third base coach in the past season, has been named the team’s new bench coach. Tom Brookens and Rafael Belliard will be Tigers’ third base and first
base coaches respectively in 2013.
Lemont, who faced a lot of criticism for making a judgemental error in Game 2 of the World Series against the San Francisco Giants, will be looking to help the Tigers achieve their goals in 2013.
Coming back to the trades and free agent signings, the Tigers have not shown any interest thus far but that does not mean they are in Nashville to waste time. As of now it seems the Tigers are playing the waiting game. They have talked to a bunch of teams
about possible trade possibilities. It will be interesting to see if they are close to getting anything done.
"We've talked a lot," Dombrowski said Tuesday afternoon in an interview with a leading sports website. "We've had our people out a lot. I think it reaches that point where you talk a bunch and you talk a bunch and you say, OK, let's see if we can get anything
done. We have not gotten anything done.”
“I can't tell you that we're close to getting anything done. We're not looking to do a whole bunch of big things either," he further added.
Of course, it will not be surprising if the Tigers sign on another free agent outfielder or offer Anibal Sanchez a lucrative contract. Owner Mike Ilitch’s willingness to spend money to claim the World Series title has gone to the point where fans believe
the Tigers will make some big moves.
