Detroit Tigers humiliate Los Angeles Angels 12-2 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers did not take much time to make their way back in the four-game series, as they defeated Los Angeles Angels with a huge 12-2 margin in the second outing at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Friday, July 29 to tie the series 1-all.
Tigers had lost the last game in a humiliating 12-7 manner, but there confidence was exceptional when they entered to take revenge in front of the large crowd. Although starter Rick Porcello went for a dazzling homer by Angels’ second baseman Maicer Izturis
in the top of the first inning, the Tigers did not stumble and levelled the game with a homer by Brennan Boesch.
Porcello also stabilised quickly and sent the Angels’ strong batting line-up into struggling position with his gritty sinkers and swinging pitches. However, he did not receive any support from his batters, as they also struggled against the Angels’ starter
Tyler Chatwood and the game remained scoreless until the top of the fifth inning. Porcello gave a single to the Angels Mark Trumbo to shatter the spell.
At that moment, the Tigers went under a little pressure, but short-stop Ramon Santiago provided a sigh a relief with his RBI single in the bottom of the fifth. It started the Tigers dazzling hitting, as Victor Martinez, Carlos Guillen and Alex Avila joined
hands to score four devastating runs to get a 6-2 lead in the bottom of the sixth inning. Martinez and Guillen scored again to elevate it to 8-2 advantage in the bottom of the seventh.
Porcello, on the other hand carried his stunning pitching into the eighth inning and finalised his eleventh win. He struck-out six batters over 107 pitches without any walk.
"Rick was fantastic," Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland said. "That might be the best game he's pitched since he came to the big leagues."
Trumbo, who was the major contributor in the Angels’ 12-7 win on Thursday, could not get considerable success against Porcello.
"He mixed his pitches really well, he had good movement and he kept the ball down," Trumbo said. "He wasn't afraid of using his off-speed pitch as a weapon, and that made it tough."
In the eighth inning, Tigers stroked four more runs to cement their phenomenal revenge. This time Don Kelly joined with Martinez and Guillen to crush the Angels’ backbone.
Chatwood was given a chance for only five innings because he has given six runs on eight hits and two walks over his 92 pitches. He lost his seventh game of the season.
Rich Thompson scattered two runs and three hits over one inning while closer Horacio Ramirez went for four runs on four hits and two walks over one inning. Tigers’ closer Daniel Schlereth, in contrast did not allow any hit in the ninth inning.
The Angels will be looking to retaliate as they now have chance to get back the lead because the Tigers will land their new starter Duane Below against their veteran Dan Haren.
