Detroit Tigers humiliated by Los Angeles Angels 8-14 – MLB news
Detroit Tigers were humiliated by the Los Angeles Angels as they suffered a painful 8-14 loss against the Los Angeles Angels at Comerica Park in Detroit Michigan on Tuesday, June 25 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2013 Major League
Baseball regular season.
A lot of credit should be given to the Angels for executing their game plan to perfection against a very strong pitching attack. Tigers, on the other hand, were unable to make the most of available opportunities and eventually paid the price. The running
season has turned out to be a very strange for the Tigers who are fighting hard to keep their first place on the American League Central Division standings table. It will be interesting to see if Jim Leyland and his men can learn from their mistakes to turn
things around in Game 2 to stay alive in the series.
Tigers’ starting pitcher Rick Porcello paid the ultimate price for his errors on the mound as he allowed ten hits and seven runs in just over four innings to take his fourth loss of the season. Porcello was unable to control his fastballs and sliders and
the Angels took complete advantage of the situation.
“It was just an ugly night for us. Obviously, they hit the ball all over the place and we didn't make some plays,” Tigers manager Jim Leyland said in a post game interview. “We actually swung the bats halfway decent, but we just played an ugly game. We pitched
and played an ugly game.”
“All I could do was clap and high-five,” said C.J. Wilson, the Los Angeles starter who was the beneficiary of that offensive outburst. “And be stoked for my teammates that they scored that many runs.”
Relief pitchers Darin Downs and Evan Reed also struggled to control the flow of runs as they combined to concede seven runs in three innings. Miguel Cabrera, Prince Fielder and Victor Martinez made valuable contributions with the bat but the night belonged
to the Angels who held on to their lead comfortably to take 1-0 series lead.
