Detroit Tigers humiliated by Minnesota Twins 4-10 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers suffered an embarrassing 4-10 loss at the hands of Minnesota Twins at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Sunday, September 23 in second game of their three match series.
Twins dominated the Tigers in almost all departments of the game. The pitching rotation in particular made the most of available opportunities to put Tigers’ batting line-up under immense pressure. Starting pitcher Scott Diamond played a key role in deciding
the outcome of the clash as he allowed just four hits and two runs in seven sharp innings to lay the foundations of an impressive Twins’ victory.
"We put together three great innings in a row and got ourselves a win," Gardenhire said.
Tigers’ starter Max Scherzer, on the other hand, had a very testing time on the mound as he struggled to stop the flow of runs against the inspired Twins’ offence. Overall, he gave up six hits and three runs in just five innings to take his seventh loss
of the season. Surely, he will be looking to turn things around on his next start.
"I knew if I could go out there and mix speeds, it would be just as effective as having velocity," Scherzer said. "I know I don't have to have velocity to be a good pitcher."
"He's still got great stuff, even if he wasn't throwing 97," Twins’ manager Ron Gardenhire said. "He's got the great change, a great breaking ball and everything is moving all over the place. We really had to be patient with him."
Tigers’ third baseman Miguel Cabrera continued his excellent form as he doubled to deep left in the fourth inning to put his side on the board. Delmon Young also made his presence felt with an RBI single to right to double Tigers’ lead 2-0.
Twins bounced back strongly in the sixth. Justin Morneau, Joe Mauer, Trevor Plouffe and Eduardo Escobar made valuable contributions to help their side score five runs in the sixth. Escobar singled to centre and Ben Revere earned an RBI single to left in
the eighth to end the game on an extremely positive note for Minnesota.
