Detroit Tigers introduce Torii Hunter – MLB Update
The Detroit Tigers have introduced newly signed outfielder Torii Hunter to the local media with high expectations.
Not only the Tigers’ front office is pleased to sign Hunter, but the former Los Angeles Angels’ star is also satisfied with his arrival in Detroit.
Both sides made it official when Detroit’s local media attended a press conference where Hunter and general manager Dave Dombrowski talked to the reporters about their potential future.
“I was flirting with another team, winking at the Tigers, I saw nothing but potential. She looked good, she smelled good, everything, but I couldn’t touch her. I dated the Tigers and now I’m married to them, I’m glad to be a Tiger it’s the perfect fit for me and my family. I’m going to win. That’s all that I care about,” said Hunter.
He added, “This was the best team in baseball, The early start was just a funk. I saw that right field might have a spot open over there. I told (Ilitch), to his face, I want to be a Tiger.”
The press conference was held inside the Tigers’ club at Comerica Park. The 37-year-old Major League veteran will be earning $13 million per year with Tigers in his two-year’s deal.
Hunter will be hitting at the Number two spot and will be part of the roster as everyday right fielder for the Tigers.
During the press conference, Hunter also admitted to this fact that the speculations were right regarding his interest to play in the Tigers. He also admitted that he did show desire to play for the Tigers during the regular season.
Experts believe that Hunter’s arrival in the Tigers’ roster is the result of general manager Dave Dombrowski, owner Mike Ilitch and assistant general manager Al Avila’s efforts. They all convinced Hunter’s agent and the player for a short term deal but sources also say that this deal might be extended in the future with the level of performance Torii shows.
Hunter possesses massive experience in Major League Baseball. He finished this past season with .313 hitting average along with 16 homers, 92 RBIs and .365 OBP.
