Detroit Tigers keeping no secrets about Anibal Sanchez – MLB Update

Detroit Tigers’ General Manager Dave Dombrowski does not want to hide anything. He has already talked about his desire to re-sign the starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez. However, it is unclear exactly how much the Tigers will have to spend to bring back one
of the revelations of the past season.
Former Washington Nationals’ General Manager Jim Bowden predicted that Sanchez’s forthcoming contract could be worth $56 million for four years. However, Sanchez deserves all this attention as he displayed some top quality throwing skills on the mound in
2012.
The right hander struck-out 167 batters over 195.2 innings pitched with an excellent 3.86 ERA. His post season performances were even batters. In his three playoffs games, Sanchez gave up just four hits and four runs, helping the Tigers emerge victorious
in important encounters against the Oakland Athletics’ and the New York Yankees.
He can be equally effective against both right handed and left handed hitters. Above all, he has the ability to up his game play in crucial situations. No wonder why so many Major League Baseball teams are chasing him this offseason.
According to CBSSports.com, Sanchez could be offered a $70 million five year contract this offseason. That is a lot of money for a man who was not the Number one pitcher on Tigers’ pitching rotation. However, in relation to the asking prices of starting
pitchers with similar abilities and numbers, it will be a fair deal.
General Manager Dave Dombrowski said, "You thank them for what they did, and if they get an offer that you think, 'Hey, how can you turn it down?' you wish them well."
"Do I think it helps that we had Sanchez (this year)? My answer would be yes," Dombrowski said at the annual state of the Tigers address. "But I'm also practical enough to know that in other ways, no, because when you get to this point, probably offers being
equal, it helps you.”
Los Angeles Angels, Toronto Blue Jays, Texas Rangers and the Minnesota Twins are some of the other teams pursuing Sanchez. It will be interesting to see if the starter can continue his good work in the next season to make a name for himself.
