Detroit Tigers level the series with 6-4 win against Seattle Mariners – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers finally managed to find a way to overcome as they secured an emphatic 6-4 win at Safeco Field in Seattle, Washington on Tuesday, May 8 in the second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. The Tigers will be very relieved to secure their first win against the Mariners this season.
Justin Verlander put up another matured performance to pick up his twelfth straight decision. For 49th consecutive start, he struck out six and lasted at least six innings.
"I made a pitch that I thought was a strike and I say something, and he's already upset obviously, so that's the nature of the game," Verlander said. "I talked to Brian when I came out of the game, and I think we're both understanding of what was going on there. I'm just thankful that I didn't say too much or Gerald didn't say too much."
"When you get over toward the stands, you never know what is going to happen," Don Kelly said. "So you try to get up above (the fans) and come down with the ball."
Seattle emerged victorious in each of the four clashed between the two sides since the start of the season. Edging the Tigers 3-2 in the opening game of the series, the Mariners were the favourites to take a decisive 2-0 lead but Jim Leyland and company raised the level of their game play just at the right time to surprise their opponents.
Tigers lost to the Mariners 0-3 at Comerica Park last month. Ideally, they will be looking to beat their opponents on their home field to restore some of the lost pride. Andy Dirks provided Detroit with a perfect start as he singled to the right in the first to help Austin Jackson score the first run.
Brennan Boesch, Prince Fielder and D Young made valuable contributions in the second to help the Tigers take an impassable 5-0 lead. Mariners fought back well in closing stages of the game but they failed to stop their rivals from levelling the series at 1-1.
