Detroit Tigers looking to Joe Nathan for 2012 season – MLB News
The Detroit Tigers were left grief-stricken when the Texas Rangers defeated them in the American League Championship Series (ALCS) and went ahead to play the World Series.
The very moment the Tigers lost the series to the Rangers, people started to blame their entire roster for this bitter humiliation, but on the other hand, many did not see the true commitment level of several players including Justin Verlander, Alex Avila,
Miguel Cabrera, short-stop Jhonny Peralta and Austin Jackson who performed tremendously and won many games for their team in the entire season.
All these players performed tremendously and also earned great acknowledgment but recently the Tigers’ management has decided to bring some more potential players for strengthening their current roster for the future seasons and especially for 2012.
Although, no official member of the Tigers’ has explained yet in the media regarding who is their potential target for the upcoming season but some league sources have confirmed that the Minnesota Twins’ relief pitcher Joe Nathan could be a player who will
benefit the Detroit Tigers in the long run. Later, some baseball experts also appreciated this very idea of Tigers’ management to bring Nathan into their franchise.
The main reason why Nathan is suddenly receiving the media attention and different teams are thinking to sign him including the Tigers as his current team has declined to exercise options on his last year’s contract instead the Twins will now buyout his
contract worth 2-million-dollars on Tuesday and given him the freedom to sign with any team he wants for his future.
This buyout enables him to become a free agent and go wherever his wants to build his career. Last season, with the Twins, he played a total of 48 games and averaged 4.84 ERA along with 42 strike-outs, 14 saves in just over 44 innings and 1.16 WHIP average.
Considering the Tigers, one of the best sides in Major League Baseball and last season’s runners up of the American League Championship Series, Joe Nathan is certainly needed in this franchise. Justin Verlander alone cannot take this franchise forward as
he certainly needs a good backup for more consistent performance in the upcoming future.
