Detroit Tigers looking to win consistently, Miguel Cabrera – MLB News
Detroit Tigers are looking stronger than ever before. General Manager Dave Dombrowski and manager Jim Leyland has made some key decisions this offseason to power Tigers’ hitting and throwing lineups. The Tigers produced some magical performances last season
to win the American League Central title. However, they were unable to handle the pressure in the post season to let their fans down.
Leyland has also made some tactical changes this season to see if his team can cope with the pressure in 2012 playoffs. Miguel Cabrera, who batted with controlled aggression last season, will be looking to perform third base duties this season. As a first
baseman in 2011, Cabrera was quite outstanding as he hit 30 home runs with 100 plus RBI’s. Although it will be challenge for Cabrera to live up to the expectations at third base, according to sources, he has lost 15 pounds of his weight in an effort to become
a better fielder.
Earlier this year, the Tigers’ acquired hard hitting Prince Fielder on a nine year $214 million contract. Fielder was one of the most impressive batters in 2011 as he blasted 38 home runs with 120 RBI’s. Fielder will have great amount of responsibility on
his shoulders in the upcoming Spring Training. Together with Miguel Cabrera, he will be hoping to form an effective hitting combination.
In an interview with a leading sports website, Tigers’ striker Cabrera stated that he is not too concerned about the hitting and pitching combinations. 'If the Tigers can win games regularly, nothing else will matter'.
"When you're losing games, everybody's talking about how bad you play third base," Cabrera said. "We better win so we can chill out and have some fun. If you win, you're playing great defence. If you lose, then you're bad."
The upcoming Spring Training will be of great importance for the Tigers. They will be looking to get into a habit of winning to settle their nerves. Jim Leyland, on the other hand, will become extremely popular among Tigers’ fans if his team pulls out the
World Series victory in 2011.
