Detroit Tigers lose 3-7 as Nelson Cruz ends Game 2 with Grand Slam for Texas Rangers – Part 2
The Texas Rangers climbed to a 2-0 advantage in the American League Championship Series on Monday, October 10 when they beat the Detroit Tigers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington in Game 2 of the series.
The winner came off the bat of Nelson Cruz as the outfielder provided the home side with a Grand Slam walk-off victory. Much to the appreciation of the fans, the club got their uplifting performance from Scott Feldman.
The Rangers went ahead early in the game as the club provided two runs in the first inning to go 2-0 up. Derek Holland was struggling at the pitcher’s mound however and the Tigers tried their best to exploit the situation.
The visitors went on to load the bases in the top second on one-out. They were unable to capitalise as Holland luckily grounded Ramon Santiago out and subsequently called Austin Jackson out on second base. The Rangers did little in the second and the Tigers
came back in the top third to snatch the lead. Holland struggled and he loaded the first two bases up with a double to Miguel Cabrera and a hit pitch delivery to Victor Martinez. Ryan Raburn came in to smash a home-run to left-field to put the club on a 3-2
lead.
The Texas club was immediately on the back foot and Scott Feldman was brought in to face the Tigers, in Holland’s stead. The two sides were quiet for a very long time before Nelson Cruz went on to the forefront in the bottom seventh. The outfielder was looking
crisp in his attack and he proved his worth to the Texas faithful by smashing Max Scherzer for a homer down left-field. The knock was good enough to draw the game as the Rangers went 3-3 against the Tigers.
It appeared that there would be more runs coming on the way but that assessment was considered wrong as the game turned in the bottom 11th. Nevertheless, it had to be noted that the Tigers had a chance in the ninth to gain the lead. Ramon Santiago
gained a single to go to first base on two-outs. Michael Gonzalez then came in to replace Alexi Ogando on the mound. He immediately disappointed his manager when he conceded a double to Don Kelly.
With the Tigers on second and third base, Neftali Feliz walked Cabrera to first. The bases were loaded and Detroit had a chance. That however did not matter as Martinez flew out to Elvis Andrus.
The game ended as Nelson Cruz came in to smash a Grand Slam in the 11th against Ryan Perry. The score line at the end of the game read 7-3.
