Detroit Tigers lose to Atlanta Braves 3-5 – MLB Spring Training
Detroit Tigers continued their horrible losing streak as they lost to the Atlanta Braves 3-5 at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida on Wednesday, February in an important Grape Fruit League encounter.
Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland will be extremely worried and disappointed with what he has seen from the Tigers so far this Spring Training. Consider the stature of this club, the fans have great expectations from this club. Tigers posted a very successful
season last year. Apart from the 0-4 hammering against the San Francisco Giants in the World Series finals, they displayed some top quality baseball skills throughout the season.
Most analysts and baseball writers consider Tigers as one of the favourites to win this year’s World Series title. However, considering what we have seen from the Tigers in three out of four Spring Training games, it will not be wrong to say that any team
can clinch the World Series title. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can put up a strong show in their next Spring Training game to improve their confidence levels.
Despite having some of the best hitters in their batting lineup, the Tigers once again failed to put up enough runs on the board. Braves, on the other hand, converted every possible scoring opportunity to apply immense pressure on the Tigers’ pitchers.
"He knows better than that," Leyland said of Porcello in a post game interview. "It was a judgment mistake. It won't happen again."
"That was just a bad fastball and a bad idea," Porcello said. "I was trying something and it didn't work."
"I am still working on everything, so a bad fastball isn't going to bother me," Porcello said. "I feel good and there's no extra pressure fighting for a spot in the rotation. I have never taken a spot in the rotation to be something for granted and I never
will. I just have to do my own job."
Tigers’ starting pitcher Rick Porcello, who had a decent time on the mount in 2012, made a poor showing as he allowed four hits and three run in just two innings. For the B raves, Tim Hudson grabbed his first win of Spring Training after he gave up two hits
in three solid innings.
