Detroit Tigers lose to Boston Red Sox 1-4 – MLB Recap
The Detroit Tigers lost to Boston Red Sox 1-4 in the second game of their-three match regular series encounter on Tuesday, July 31 at Fenway Park in Boston.
Tigers’ offence once again lost its composure as they gave too many loop-holes to the Red Sox early in the game and lost with bitter embarrassment.
Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland said, "Certainly, to call the game at this point was the right call, Could we have maybe gotten through that inning? Who knows? That's a tough situation for an umpire, but I think they definitely made the right call, calling it now.”
While it was Red Sox fourth straight victory as they proved their valour in all areas of play.
Starter Josh Beckett played extremely well for the Red Sox and earned a great victory for his team.
He pitched 2.2 innings and allowed only one run, one hit and one earned run while his ERA also remained consistent at 4.54.
He struck-out two Tigers’ hitters and looked comfortable on the mound for his entire throwing spell.
Not only the starter, but the Red Sox other two pitcher were also looking in great touch as they both performed with big energy.
Relief pitcher Clayton Mortensen pitched 2.2 innings and received only one hit on his consistent 1.17 ERA.
“It was definitely a lot of concern on that one. He hit it and I'm just sitting on the mound just saying, 'Go foul, go foul, go foul.' I just watched it tail foul, and I was like, 'OK, I got away with one. Now we've got to lock it in.' Scary pitch, but just a long strike," said Mortensen later in the game and explained about his team’s performance and his individual performance in this particular game.
Closer Franklin Morales also tossed 0.1 innings with big energy and played his part in the Red Sox win.
On the other hand, the Tigers’ pitchers did not play well and lost the game for their team.
Starter Justin Verlander gave too many waivered deliveries in his five innings spell and allowed four runs, six hits and three earned runs on his 2.63 ERA.
