Detroit Tigers lose to Chicago White Sox 5-7 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers lost to Chicago White Sox 5-7 at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois on Monday, May 14 in the opening game of their two match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season. The game was played on an extremely competitive note with both teams adopting an aggressive approach.
Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland and General Manager Dave Dombrowski will be very disappointed with the result of the game as the Tigers lost for the 18th time this season.
Detroit has some of the best pitchers and hitters in their squad and it is hard to say what has gone wrong for them since the start of the season. Prince Fielder was signed by the Tigers for a record $214 million contract. In Justin Verlander, the Tigers have the best ace in the American League Central Division.
Another frustrating outing on Monday evening means the Tigers have now gone below the .500 win percentage mark for the first time this season and it will be interesting to see if they can put things on the right track before the All Star Break.
"Spot them three runs early and it's nice to get a couple in the first," said Dunn in a post game interview.
"There are some good things going but a lot of bad things for me right now," Dunn added. "Hopefully we can get those cleaned up and keep producing."
"We had an opportunity to really break the game open," manager Jim Leyland said. "We weren't able to do that, but we did swing the bats much better tonight."
Credit must be given to the White Sox’s batter for the way they finished the game. The Tigers were leading the score 3-0 in the first inning and it seemed they will cruise to an easy win.
Fielder, Delmon Young, Jhonny Peralta, Miguel Cabrera and Andy Dirks provided the Tigers with a perfect start and with a 5-2 lead in hand in the third, they were the favourites to win the game. However, Chicago bounced back strongly scoring five runs in fifth and sixth innings to stun the Tigers.
