Detroit Tigers lose to Cleveland Indians 2-3 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers lost to the Cleveland Indians 2-3 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Tuesday, September 4 in second game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Starting pitcher Rick Porcello looked a bit out of sorts as he gave up eight hits and three runs in just over five innings to take his 11th loss of the season. His counterpart from Cleveland, Justin Masterson had a great time on the mound, allowing
just four hits and two runs in six effective innings to grab his 11th win of the season.
Indians made an aggressive start to the contest as they raced to a 3-0 lead. Miguel Cabrera hit a two run home-run in the sixth to keep Tigers in the game but his effort did not prove to be enough.
"I'm not frustrated," Manager Jim Leyland said. "I'm not going to change. We've been the same all year. We come here ready to do our job and do our best."
"It's not a frustration, it's the real world. You've got to win games," Leyland said in a post game interview. "If you want to get to the postseason, we've got to win enough games to do it, but I'm not going to change. That's just the way it is. We come
here steady every day."
Jim Leyland and company lost 2-3 in a thrilling encounter in the series opener and they failed to dominate in Game 2 as well. Credit should be given to the Indians, who have adjusted to the conditions at Comerica Park superbly.
Despite losing first two games of the series, Tigers are placed second on the American League Central Division standings table, just a game behind the leaders Chicago White Sox. Manager Leyland will be expecting the players to regroup and fight back at this
critical time of the season.
There is no denying the fact the Tigers have some of the best hitters and pitchers in their roster. If the Tigers can bring some consistency in their results, surely they will have a great chance of lifting the AL Central title for the second straight year.
