Detroit Tigers lose to Kansas City Royals 3-8 – MLB News

Detroit Tigers were humiliated by the Kansas City Royals 3-8 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Thursday April 25 in the finale of their two match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular season.

Tigers dominated the Royals in almost all aspects of the game in the opener and they were looking to continue the good work in Game 2 to earn an important home series victory but the Royals had other ideas. Coming back from behind, the
Royals secured a thrilling win on Thursday to level up series 1-1. Tigers’ Manager Kim Leyland will be extremely disappointed with the outcome of the game. Without a shadow of a doubt, the Tigers have some of the best pitching and hitting talent in their squad
but for some weird reason they have not been able to convert than talent into consistent results. Their loss against the Royals damaged their win loss record to 10-10 and it will be interesting to see if the Tigers can learn from their mistakes to bring some
consistency into their results.
"This was a phenomenal road trip for us," said right-hander James Shields, who pitched eight solid innings Thursday, making sure the Royals stayed in the contest. "We're going to look back at this road trip, and I think it's going to be
a pretty crucial road trip."
"I felt I was in a good rhythm. I was making my pitches when I needed to," Shields said. "That's a tough team over there. Even if you're making your pitches, they're still going to hit you. I think I minimized my damage as well as I could."
Starting pitcher Justin Verlander produced another powerful performance as he gave up just two runs in seven sharp innings but his efforts were not enough to save the Tigers from an embarrassing defeat in front of their home crowd. Relief
pitcher Phil Coke had a terrible time on the mound as he allowed four runs in just over inning of relief to suffer his third loss of the season. With score tied at 3-3 going into the extra inning, the Tigers would have fancied their chances but Royals’ outfielder
Alex Gordon smacked a grand slam to ensure the Royals prevail in a nail biting encounter.
