Detroit Tigers lose to Los Angeles Angels 4-7 – MLB news
Detroit Tigers continued their poor form as they took another embarrassing 4-7 loss against the Los Angeles Angels at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Wednesday, June 26 in Game 2 of their three match series of the 2013 Major League Baseball regular
season.
Angels, who secured a comfortable win in the opener, made the most of available opportunities on Wednesday to take an impassable 2-0 series lead. A lot of credit should be given to the batting line-up for executing the game plan to perfection against one
of the best batting attacks in the American League Central Division.
Despite having the home conditions working in their favour, the Tigers were unable to find winning ways. Manager Jim Leyland will be very disappointed with how his team played in a critical encounter. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can learn
from their mistakes to avoid a humiliating series sweep in front of their home crowd. Torii Hunter and Miguel Cabrera hit back to back home runs in the first innings to give Tigers a dream start but Angels fought back strongly to record a memorable win.
“If we knew what we were doing differently (against Detroit), we'd probably try to do it against everybody else,” catcher Mark Iannetta said.
“I don't really believe in that,” Leyland said. “It's another team that's a good team, and they've been swinging the bats very well lately. They're like everybody else. When they pitch good, they win games.”
“He's going to be evaluated and have some tests done (Thursday) and we'll see what's going on,” Angels manager Mike Scioscia said of Hanson.
“Torii is especially tough with runners in scoring position. He's tough,” Scioscia said. “That's a big out right there.”
Tigers’ starting pitcher Jose Alvarez had a terrible time on the mound as he allowed seven hits and four runs in just five innings to take his first loss of the season. Relief pitchers Drew Smyly also looked completely out of sorts, conceding two runs and
three hits in just over an innings.
For the Angels, reliever De La Rosa pitched two scoreless innings for his second win of the season.
