Detroit Tigers lose to Minnesota Twins 2-6 – MLB News
Detroit Tigers continued to show signs of inconsistency as they lost an important battle against the Minnesota Twins 2-6 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Wednesday, May 1 in the finale of their three match series of the
2013 Major League Baseball regular season.
Twins dominated the Tigers in almost all aspects of the game in the finale. Tigers were looking to continue the good work in Game 3 to earn an important home series sweep but the Twins had other ideas. Coming back from behind,
the Twins secured a thrilling win on Wednesday to avoid an embarrassing series sweep.
Tigers’ Manager Kim Leyland will be extremely disappointed with the outcome of the game. Without a shadow of a doubt, the Tigers have some of the best pitching and hitting talent in their squad but for some weird reason they have
not been able to convert than talent into consistent results. Their loss against the Royals damaged their win loss record to 15-11 and it will be interesting to see if the Tigers can learn from their mistakes to bring some consistency into their results.
"I think Sanchy was just too excited at the start," Tigers manager Jim Leyland said. "He was throwing too hard, and it hurt his command. He got it back, because he's an excellent pitcher, and we were able to get it within one."
"I felt like I had a lot better stuff today," Diamond said. "Today was a big step in the progression toward getting back."
"That was big for me," Aaron Hicks said. "With no outs, that's important to get more runs on the board, give our pitchers more of a cushion."
Starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez had a decent time on the mound as he allowed five hits and three runs in six solid innings. Striking out batters at regular intervals, he kept his side in the game but the night belonged to the Twins
who showed no signs of nerves under pressure to secure a thrilling win. Twins’ starter Scott Diamond outpitched his rival from the Tigers, allowing four hits and two runs in six innings.
