Detroit Tigers lose to San Francisco Giants 4-3 in World Series Game 4 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers were beaten by the San Francisco Giants 4-3 at Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Sunday, October 28 in Game 4 of 2012 World Series finals.
The batting line-up, once again, failed to live up to the expectations as the Tigers took another embarrassing defeat in front of their home crowd. Manager Jim Leyland will be extremely upset with what he saw from the Tigers throughout the series against
the Giants.
After Tigers’ impressive 4-0 American League Championship Series sweep against the New York Yankees, the fans had great expectations from this team but the Tigers seemed to have no answers to the Giants’ onslaught.
Giants 4-0 series sweep shows what the momentum can do at this stage of the season. The Tigers had the momentum on their side in the series against the Yankees. Similarly, the Giants held the momentum against the Tigers.
"Detroit probably didn't know what it was in for," Giants’ general manager Brian Sabean said. "Our guys had a date with destiny."
"When pitching is your strength, you want a good defense," Giants’ manager Bruce Bochy said. "That shows up every day. ... Hitting sometimes, it comes and goes. But as long as you can stay in more games, the better chance you have of winning them, and that's
how we play."
"Obviously, there was no doubt about it. They swept us," Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland said. "So there was certainly no bad breaks, no fluke.
Starting pitcher Max Scherzer, who displayed some high quality throwing skills against New York, was unable to control his fastballs and sliders against the Giants. Scherzer gave up seven hits and three runs in just over six innings, allowing the Giants
to take complete control of the situation.
The night belonged to the Giants who scored the tie breaking single in the extra inning to wrap up a memorable series victory. For the Tigers, Miguel Cabrera and Delmon Young homered to keep their team in the hunt but their effort did not prove to be enough.
San Francisco Giants fought hard throughout the playoffs and proved to everyone their determination as they take the World Series title. The Tigers will definitely be disappointed as they were unable to win a single game against the Giants and were humiliated
in the World Series finals.
