Detroit Tigers lose to Seattle Mariners 4-7 – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers lost to Seattle Mariners 4-7 at the Comerica Park in Detroit, Michigan on Tuesday, April 24 in the opening game of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Mariners’ dominance over the Tigers is also a clear warning to other teams in their division. It will be interesting to see if the Mariners can continue their brilliant form throughout the series to pick up their winning percentage to .500.
Detroit, on the other hand, has looked a bit out of sorts in their last few MLB games. After making an strong start to the season, they went down like a row of nine pins against Texas Ranger, losing three of the four games.
It will not be wrong to say that they will have to reconsider their strategies if they want to turn things around in the next game. Tom Wilhelmsen had an excellent night as he held of Jim Leyland and company in the eighth inning to set up a crucial
win for his team.
Alex Liddi also made a valuable contribution with his career high three hits that included a solo home run.
"Our team did a pretty good job putting pressure on the pitcher," Liddi said. "Every inning, we had somebody on base, so it was a really good game for us."
For the Tigers, Alex Avila and Miguel Cabrera homered but that did not turn out to be enough.
"His stuff was unbelievable, he just couldn't control it," Avila said. "That's what we need to do -- get him to a point where he's got this stuff and gets into a groove. We've seen what he can do when he pitches like that."
The win will be of great importance for the Mariners who have lacked consistency since the start of 2012 season. While their 8-10 win loss record is far from poor, it is something they would like to improve on with every passing game.
Showing great composure, fighting spirit and determination, Seattle made the most of available opportunities on Tuesday evening. Their offensive play was admirable and they defended like champions. Overcoming the mighty Tigers, they will be feeling
very confident right now.
