Detroit Tigers lose to Texas Rangers 9-13 in thrilling series finale – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers lost to Texas Rangers 9-13 in a thrilling encounter at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas on Wednesday, June 27 in the finale of their three match series of the 2012 Major League Baseball regular season.
Although the Tigers lost the series, Manager Jim Leyland will be proud of his men for fighting hard right until the end. Despite having all the odds stacked up against them, the Tigers had crushed Texas Rangers 8-2 in the opening game. The Tigers were looking
to put in a major impact as they were riding on their win from the first game of the series.
The second game was played on a more competitive note and the Rangers used their home conditions to great effect to level the series. Credit must be give to the Tigers for their sheer determination and composure in the series finale.
The offence, which had been struggling to produce runs, put up a strong one Wednesday but the Tigers made too many unforced errors on the field and paid the ultimate price. Daniel Murphy ended his home-run drought as he homered to right in the second inning
to put the Rangers 4-0 ahead.
"It was just one of those nights where everything comes together," Murphy said. "It was just impressive the way we showed an offensive effort from top to bottom. It was very complete."
"We hustled hard and had good at-bats," Manager Leyland said in a post game interview. "You got to play better than that, pitch better than that to have a chance here.
Third baseman Miguel Cabrera, who hit 30 HR’s last season, brought the Tigers back into the game with an RBI single to centre in the third. Brennan Boesch, Rookie Quintin Berry, Prince Fielder and Jhonny Peralta kept the Tigers in the game.
Austin Jackson, Alex Avila and Delmon Young combined to score four runs in the eighth as the Tigers reduce the deficit to 9-11. Doug Fister, who has recently returned from the DH list, took his sixth road loss of the season. The Tigers will be looking to
improve their future performances to gain some momentum and build up some much needed confidence in the team.
