Detroit Tigers make strong come back to avoid series sweep – MLB Update

Detroit Tigers bounced back strongly on Sunday evening as they secured a comfortable 5-2 win against Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, Illinois in the finale of their three-game encounter.
For the Tigers, Gerald Laird displayed some high quality hitting skills as he homered to help Porcello win his first start of the season. Porcello, who is still new to the big league, pitched seven strong innings to strike-out four and he did not issue a
walk.
"It was fun," Laird said. "I have a good time with all the guys. They know I joke around a lot, so when I hit it good, they were giving me a little bit of grief."
"He's primarily a sinkerball guy, but he changed a little today where he had some higher, harder fastballs," Chicago's Paul Konerko of Porcello. "When you can do that as a sinkerball guy, it usually opens up a lot of things for you."
"When he's getting a lot of ground balls, his sinker is being real effective," Laird said.
With Chicago Sox making the most of available opportunities in the opening two games, it seemed as if they were going to earn their first series sweep of the month against one of the strongest teams in MLB.
However, the Tigers finally managed to turn the tables on them as they put up a strong show on Sunday, April 15 to avoid the sweep and improve their win-loss record to 6-3.
There is no denying to the fact the Tigers are one of the supreme forces in Major League Baseball right now. Not only is their hitting line up strong but their pitching attack is also one of the best in the business. Tigers’ ace Justin Verlander put up some
outstanding numbers last year.
Showing his class, composure and mental toughness, the starter won the American League Most Valuable Players Award, which helped his team lift the AL Central Division title.
With the likes of Prince Fielder, Miguel Cabrera and Brennan Boesch, the batting unit is also looking more dangerous than ever before. It will be interesting to see if the Tigers can cheer up their fans by living up to the hype.
