Detroit Tigers make two crucial minor league moves – MLB News Update

According to a leading sports website, the Detroit Tigers have sold starting pitcher Adam Wilk’s contract a team in Korean Baseball league. The other Minor League the Tigers made on Tuesday included left reliever Matt Hoffman who has been officially sent
to the Triple A Toledo in Tigers farm system.
A very reliable Major League Baseball sources confirmed the news that the Tigers have officially released Wilk, who had terrible time on the mound last season. The 25 year old left handed starting pitcher had a number of opportunities to cement his place
on the Tigers’ big league roster but that did not turn out to be the case.
Wilk, who was the 11th round draft pick in June 2009, went 0-3 with an extremely poor 8.18 ERA in his three Major League starts in the last season. Skipper Jim Leyland provided him with an opportunity to prove his mettle as a relief pitcher as
well but he posted a forgettable 5.40 ERA.
“Wilk is noted for having good command and put up solid numbers while moving up though the system.. But he was unable to replicate his minor league success in the big leagues. The Tigers have decided to cut bait on a pitcher whom they consider to have limited
upside, at best”, said Al Beaton of blessyouboys.com.
“Hoffman was designated for assignment on Dec. 10th. After passing through waivers, the 24 year old left-handed reliever was assigned to Triple A Toledo. Hoffman was drafted by the Tigers in 2007 and has spent the past two seasons with the Mud Hens”, he
added.
Following his inconsistent performances, Wilk was sent to the Triple A Toledo, where he finished 7-11 with a 2.77 ERA in 24 starts. He was named the Minor League Player of the Month for August but that was not enough to prolong his stay in Detroit.
Wilk have given some impressive results in the Minor League, going 30-23 with a 2.66 ERA and 385 strikeouts in 83 starts.
Minor League Hoffman, who spent his past two seasons with the Mud Hens in the farm system, appeared in 43 games in 2012, posting a 1-2 record with 3.69 ERA.
