Detroit Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland feels sorry about Derek Jeter’s fractured ankle – MLB Update
Detroit Tigers' manager Jim Leyland understands that Derek Jeter’s latest ankle injury is certainly a disaster for him as well as for his team who sometimes rely too much on him.
Leyland expressed his feelings as Derek Jeter did not play the second game of American League Championship Series on Sunday, October 14 at Yankee Stadium in New York City.
“Well, this is a tough story for baseball, What he has done in the postseason, what he means to the Yankees, what he means to baseball in general. So it makes it a tough thing obviously,” Leyland said of Jeter and his recent ankle injury.
Leyland added and explained, “I mean, if I said ‘postseason baseball’, what do you think about? Those are probably three of the things I would talk about. They are going to play it the right way. They are not going to give us anything. The manager is tough, the team is tough, It would be different, to say the least, not to see him in the lineup."
Yankees' fans were also cheering for their talented shortstop and skipper Jeter, who over the past 17 years has been playing baseball for the New York Yankees franchise.
His sudden ankle injury certainly was a huge setback for the organisation. He was absent on Game 2 of ALCS after fracturing his ankle in Game 1 on Saturday.
Though the Yankees lost that particular game, but as they were planning a new potential strategy to bounce back in the next series, one of their best players got injured.
Experts believe that this is certainly a dangerous situation for the New York Yankees to keep their thrust alive in the series without Derek but still they must focus on the next outing which will certainly determine their chances to play in the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals or San Francisco Giants.
On the other hand, with Derek Jeter’s absence, Yankees' manager Joe Girardi is making potential changes in the line-up.
He moved Ichiro Suzuki up in the batting line-up while Robinson Cano, Mark Teixeira and Raul Ibanez will also be playing one spot up.
