Detroit Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland praises Anibal Sanchez on his brilliant outing – MLB News
Detroit Tigers' starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez pitched tremendously well in the second game of American League Championship Series against the New York Yankees on Sunday, October 14 at Yankee Stadium in New York City. He earned a great second straight victory for his team as the Tigers are now leading the ALCS 2-0.
Later in the game, Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland appreciated his talented starter Sanchez and told the media praising him loudly as he said, "He was terrific, this is a tough place to pitch with a tough lineup and a short porch. And a whole bunch of left-handed hitters, it is not easy. That was quite a feat."
Sanchez also commented on his brilliant outing against the New York Yankees after the game and said, "I try to think backwards, If the count calls for a fastball, I throw a different pitch. If the count calls for a different pitch, I try to mix my speeds."
In Sunday’s game, Sanchez pitched seven innings and received three hits only. He pitched in right areas and did not give any run. He struck-out seven while he remained consistent in his seven inning spell.
It was a very important game for both teams but the way Sanchez played, the Tigers easily edge past the Yankees with a three run advantage.
"It's frustrating. I don't have a problem with Jeff's effort, I don't, because he hustled to get to the play. But in this day and age when we have instant replay available to us," Yankees' manager Joe Girardi said on his team’s performance with bitter disappointment.
Sanchez who is playing in the Major League for six years, now considered as one of the best players in the big league.
His performance in the post-season is certainly impressive but the way he carried his performance from the regular season, is exceptional. He currently is averaging 3.86 at ERA along with 9-13 overall win-loss record, 167 strike-outs and 1.27 WHIP.
Overall Sanchez career 3.75 ERA along with 48-51 win-loss, 733 strike-outs and 1.35 WHIP also makes him a role player in the league.
